The Durian Experience

The Durian is one of the most hated and loved fruits in the world. The Durian is renowned for its phenomenal smell (actually, 'stench' comes to mind) that is so powerful that first-timers are often forced to hold their noses while they taste.

The Durian is a large oval fruit about 25 cm to 30 cm long, although it often grows larger. When the hardy, spiny shell is cracked open, pale white-green segments are revealed with a taste as distinctive as the smell. Durians are so highly esteemed that great care is taken over their selection and you'll see gourmets feeling them carefully, sniffing them reverently and finally demanding a preliminary taste before purchasing.

And, yes, I tried it myself. And I have pictures to prove it. When I was at the District conference, my good friend JC said he'd introduce me to one of the best things in life. He compared eating durian to an orgasm. Well, if his orgasms are anything like eating durians, I pity him

In case you're wondering: The glow on the pictures is because my camera was in a nice cool room before we took it out in the middle of the night. So that's how warm it is in Singapore, even at night.
