The Kuala Lumpur Experience
uala Lumpur left a lasting impression on me. Not only the height of the world's tallest building, or the Gabai Waterfalls, but the kindness of the people I met was just great. This is a weekend I'll not forget so quickly.
- How Kuala Lumpur got its name Kuala Lumpur, translated, means something like 'The place where two muddy rivers meet' (and, no, I'm not making this up). And this is the original place, so I'm told. They also built a beautiful mosque on the crossing.
- The view from the Kuala Lumpur Tower This is a view of Kuala Lumpur from the world's 4th tallest communications tower. Everything looks like toys from so high up...
- Me in front of the world's tallest building Because the Kuala Lumpur Tower is built on a hill, its highest point is actually located above Kuala Lumpur City Center, the world's tallest building. This is a really nice shot, because you can see me and the KLCC.
- See Hin Chong and Martin Frech right in front of the KLCC This is See Hin and me. See Hin was a great host to me. Not only did he order the bus tickets for the both of us, but he also arranged for us to be picked up in KL in the middle of the night, gave me his bed to sleep in and endured my snoring... (List not ranked - obviously). Scary thought: On this picture, my face looks bigger than the world's tallest building...
- The KLCC This is a really good shot of the Kuala Lumpur City Center. I shot this picture right from in front of it. And here's another shot - my favorite.
- The Lounge of the Istana The Istana Hotel of Kuala Lumpur is where I stayed overnight from Saturday to Sunday. My dear host Theresa arranged my stay in this exquisite hotel for me.
- Bamboo Rice Although it's delicious, this traditional Malaysian food is not easily found anymore. See Hin recommended this to me - it's normal rice cooked in bamboo filled with a leaf coating. Yummy! And here's another yummy thing: Steamboat! Basically you boil your own food - it's very good.
- Theresa, my marvelous host, and me Theresa was such a marvelous host to me! She took me around all of Kuala Lumpur, arranged all kinds of neat activities, and just made my stay in KL so enjoyable. Thank you, Theresa! This is a nice picture of the two of us.
After more than 2 years, I was able to return to Kuala Lumpur on my way back to Germany from New Zealand in October/November of 2001. And I brought along some more nice pictures:
- First off, I met again with some friends from my last visit. This picture shows me with some Kuala Lumpur Rotaractors. Thomas is on the far left - he was a great host.
- Thomas took me to see the Batu caves - what an amazing sight! Here's a picture of the entrance - you need to walk up all those steps to get inside. But it's definitely worth it! Here's another picture of me in front of the caves. Free monkeys roam the steps to the caves! Here's another real good shot.
- Thomas also took me to a very beautiful Taoist temple - this is a picture of me in front of it. And here's one of me finding out my future...
- On my final night in Kuala Lumpur, my friends See Hin and Theresa invited me for some of the best food I've ever had: claypot rice. It was great!
